Yarn Farm Kingston is delighted to welcome basketmaker Mary Ann Williams, based right here in the Hudson Valley, for her first basket weaving workshop in our space!
This attractive basket is a wonderful introductory basketmaking project. Featuring an asymmetrical dyed accent, it is both decorative and practical—a lovely addition to any home. Measuring approximately 7” W × 3" D x 8” H (not including the handle), it is the perfect size for holding mail, tools, or a favorite pad of paper. It would also make a perfect container for dried flowers.
Participants will learn how to lay out a filled base, weave up the sides, insert a leather handle or strap, and finish the basket with a traditional rim and lash. Your finished basket will be unstained; instructions for staining your basket if desired will be provided for you to take home.
We will meet from 9am-3pm with a break for lunch. At registration, you will have the option to add lunch at Yarn Farm at a discounted rate. You may also patronize eateries in our neighborhood, the Kingston Waterfront, or bring lunch from home to eat at our bar during the break.
Course fee of $125 (pay online when you register) + Materials fee of $40 payable in cash or check (only) the day-of to the instructor. Total fee $165.

About your instructor: Mary Ann made her first basket late one afternoon after a challenging day as an elementary teacher… and reports that it was a disaster! Despite that less than positive experience, she discovered her love of basket making. For thirty five years she has actively sought to increase her basketmaking skills and to share what she’s learned with others. Mary Ann teaches classes privately, at local libraries and other venues such as the NYS Sheep and Wool Festival. We are so lucky to have her with us this fall.
