Ready to go beyond beginner knitting?
Are you comfortable-ish knitting in the round and making a cable, but not necessarily at the same time?
Learn how to cable in small circumference knitting to make terrifically textured fingerless mitts. Use either magic loop or double-pointed needles (DPNs). We’ll use the free Valentine Mitts pattern by Robbyn Kenyon available on Ravelry. The finished mitts are about 10” from top to bottom and should comfortably fit a hand with anywhere from a 6 to a 9.5” circumference (measurement taken around the palm, above the thumb). You’ll used worsted- or aran-weight yarn.
In this class we will start the first glove, knitting in the round and cabling straightaway. We’ll continue onto the gusset and you’ll see how this clever pattern commandeers one of the cables for the gusset in the mitt. (What’s a gusset you say? We’ll explain this and more!)
Time permitting we’ll continue past the gusset, bind-off, rejoin, and then choose-your-own-adventure to end your mitt with more cables or with ribbing. Time not permitting, we’ll coach you on how to complete your mitt and mitt #2 at home.
Skills required: long tail cast on, knit, purl, bind off, knitting in the round (magic loop or DPNs), and comfort using a cable needle (strong proficiency isn’t required)
