Colorwork Knitting: Triceratops Cowl! (Course)

  • 21 W. Strand St. Kingston US (map)

Two Saturday mornings in February: Feb 7 and Feb 21.

Ready for colorwork? Colorwork knitting uses two or more colors of yarn in a row and is also known as stranded knitting. It results in a graphic, as delightfully demonstrated by our project pick, the Triceratops Cowl by Jamie Lomax. The Triceratops Cowl is a stranded colorwork pattern for a basic cowl (one size), knit in the round using circular needles, from the bottom up. Corrugated ribbing frames the top and bottom edges. Jamie was inspired by her daughter’s love of dinosaurs. I think we all know someone who most certainly needs this creative cowl!

In this two-session course (each session is one hour long) you’ll learn and practice these special techniques: stranded colorwork in the round, reading charts, catching long floats, and corrugated ribbing.

Pre-requisite skills: (must have recent and confident experience with the following)

  • Cast on

  • Bind off

  • Knitting in the round

  • Comfortable ribbing (knitting and purling)

  • Please note, this is an intermediate knitting class class. Due to time constraints, we will not be able to teach you the above skills during class.

Due to the slow nature of knitting will not finish your cowl during the duration of this class. The class is designed to tackle all the hardest parts of stranded colorwork during class. You will finish your two sessions with all the skills needed to complete the project on your own.

Course fee of $100 includes 2 skeins of sportweight organic 100% merino wool and your own digital copy of the pattern. We will purchase the pattern for you and email it to you after you register. Do not purchase it yourself; we are unable to refund you for the pattern purchase if purchase it yourself directly.

Teacher: Kristin Parker

During your course, you may shop with a 10% discount on full-price items (some limited items are excluded from this discount) on the dates your class meets.

Minimum 2 people to confirm the class, maximum of 6 students total. If we don’t reach the minimum of two students by 3 days before the date of the first class we’ll refund your purchase in full. Read and understand our Class Policies here.
