Did you get a new wheel at Rhinebeck? Come learn how to use it at Yarn Farm!
In this one-day intensive for beginners you will obtain a foundation in the basics of spinning wool. Learn about the different types of spinning fibers and get hands on experience in the basics of hand spinning, from fiber preparation, basic draw techniques, plying, through to skeining and finishing. This is also a good option if you learned to spin in the past and need a refresher. Proficiency in spinning will come over time with steady practice after your course.
Bring your own wheel or borrow one from a friend. Make sure your wheel is functional. (Bring it to the shop before class and we can help you check if you’d like, but Jocelyn is not a spinning wheel repair person.)
Approx. four ounces of beginner-friendly spinning fiber is provided and included in the class fee.
Teacher: Jocelyn Songco
Class Size: minimum 2, maximum 4 students
Class Fee: $145. This is for approx. four hours of instruction and four ounces of beginner friendly wool for spinning.
You must bring a wheel to class for the session. If you don’t have a wheel or don’t have access to borrow one, Yarn Farm has one spinning wheel available to use in class on a first-come, first-served basis, for a $20 rental fee. Contact us to check availability and reserve.
There will be a short lunch break provided mid-way through the intensive. Lunch is not provided. We have light fare at our bar and we’d be delighted to feed you during your break. A la carte prices for food range from $9-14.
We plan to offer this course every 2-3 months, demand permitting. Email us if you’re interested but can’t make this date!
