Melt the ICE Hat Knit A Long

  • 21 W. Strand St. Kingston US (map)

Come cast on a Melt the ICE Hat with us Thursday February 5th at 6pm.

Knitters across the country are knitting this hat as a form of protest against all that is happening right now. We will work on this hat together in solidarity and community.

“In the 1940’s, Norwegians made and wore red pointed hats with a tassel as a form of visual protest against Nazi occupation of their country. Within two years, the Nazis made these protest hats illegal and punishable by law to wear, make, or distribute.”

You will need to buy the pattern from Ravelry before the Knit Along, whether at home or at Yarn Farm. The designer YarnCultMN/Needle and Skein will donate all proceeds from the sale of this pattern to the immigrant aid agencies who will distribute the funds to those impacted by the actions of ICE.

Please note, this is a knit along, not a class. We will absolutely support you with your hat and answer questions as we can, but won’t be able to teach techniques. Please do come even if this feels like a stretch project for you. We will all support you. You can knit the hat in fingering, DK or Worsted weight yarn. The most important part is that its red. We have yarn you can purchase at the shop for it or go through your stash before coming. This is a free event. Hope to see you there.

There is also a crochet version of the hat. The Feb 5 craft-a-long will have knitting support from Yarn Farm. If you come to make the crochet version we hope there will be fellow crocheters who can help you along too!
