Sashiko, a Japanese form of embroidery well over a hundred years old, has exploded in popularity lately! Unsurprising as it’s both beautiful and functional.

The foundation of sashiko is the rhythm of stitching, using a special plate thimble made of metal. In this class Jocelyn will share how to use this thimble and an overview of sashiko as taught by Atsushi Futatsuya, a third generation master sashiko artist. Class plan: 2 to 2 ½ hours of active teaching followed by time for in-shop practice stitching and support.

Class fee $65 and materials fee $20, or a total cost of $85.

Materials provided: metal plate thimble, one skein (20 meters) of sashiko embroidery floss, one sashiko needle, and one 100% cotton or linen fat quarter.

Cancellation Policy (updated 4/16/25): Group classes require one week's notice before the first class for store credit. No credit issued after this time, including no-shows on the day-of. If the class is cancelled by us because we have not met the stated minimum number of students, you will receive a full refund. Private sessions must be cancelled or rescheduled no later than 48 hours before the lesson for store credit.
