Yarn Farm Kingston offers a curated selection of yarn, fiber, fabric, tools, accessories and kits for those who say and know, “I can make that!” with particular emphasis on locally sourced and small batch, hard-to-find, must-see-in-person goods. The original idea was to have a year-round sheep and wool festival in a brick and mortar shop! For you weavers and spinners, we’re a dealer of both Ashford and Schacht Spindle Co. looms, wheels and accessories. Choose a spinning wheel from what we have on-site, or let us help you with your fiber equipment order to be picked up or delivered right to you!

At YFK, founder and owner Jocelyn Songco proposes to delight fiber artists — knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers, sewers, needle felters and more — as well as non-crafters aka “curious creatives”. Since the first year we opened we have consistently won Chronogram Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards: Best Yarn Store (2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026), Best Wine Bar (2025 and 2026), Best Charcuterie Board (2026; and 2nd Best Charcuterie Board in 2023 and 2025), Best Bartender (2026) and Best Classes / Workshops (2025 and 2026)!

Our wine bar offers delectable and reasonably priced wines, local craft beer and hard cider, locally blended tea, sodas and more. Todd is our chef and bar manager and he aims to please, and for everyone to feel right at home! Along with crowd pleasing cheese and charcuterie boards we also offer simple fare like lobster rolls and shrimp cocktails, caprese sandwiches and soup.

Directions and Parking

Street parking: pay meters with coins or the Passport Parking app (excluding Sundays, holidays and other days after 6pm). Free parking in the municipal lot on Rondout Landing at the end of Broadway (under the bridge) and also by the Trolley Museum (short walk).

The Kingston Waterfront where YFK is located is a destination for locals and tourists alike with the above parking, plus some parking on residential streets near the shop. (Please read all signs when you park to be sure you’re ok to park there!) That said, it’s not the Fairgrounds so, naturally, will not have the extent of parking that the Festival does. Consider carpooling when you come to visit us!

Other fun activities while you’re in town

Though we wonder, who has time for anything unrelated to sheep and wool, we also accept that some fiber fanatics may come with partners and families who may want to explore. Fair enough! Suggestions in no particular order: Sojourner Truth State Park, Kingston Point Rail Trail (part of the Empire State Trail, including Kingston Point Beach and a clear view of the Rondout Lighthouse), and Poets’ Walk Park (across the river) for easy-to-moderate outdoor strolls.

For shopping, our Kingston Waterfront neighborhood has lovely mom and pop shops and eateries, including Capital Fabric Supply and Department of Things. In midtown Kingston we like Red Owl and Free to Thrift. In uptown Kingston try People’s Place, Kingston Consignment, and Catskill Art Supply. Naturally, there are so many other shops that we love that we can’t list them all. Also, ofc, be sure to check hours before heading somewhere.

FAQ

A yarn shop? And a wine bar? How does this work?

In our shop and wine bar we sell yarn and other materials and tools for crafting, and we have an L-shaped bar plus an outdoor sidewalk cafe (in season, and yes it is still in season) where you can enjoy food and drinks. You can patronize one, or the other, or both!

Do you have food? Non-alcoholic beverages?

Indeed we do! See our brief About section above and also our Wine Bar page. Food is served from 3pm on weekdays and from 12pm on weekends. On the Monday following the Festival we have wine bar service from 12pm.

How do I make a reservation for your wine bar?

Great question! Short answer: Seating is first-come, first-served, meaning no reservations. Long answer: During non-Rhinebeck times we are a local neighborhood joint with service that is first-come, first-served, and this works well, particularly since we don’t have the standard staffing of a full-service restaurant or bar like a host/hostess or multiple servers. We have seating for 9 along our L-shaped bar, and on Knit Night we make space for about a dozen more by clearing our front tables of retail goods, and our sidewalk cafe has space for a dozen plus more. As well, we are on the Kingston Waterfront with heaps of benches and outdoor spots to sit and knit so provided the weather is accommodating, it is definitely an option to grab a snack from us and pick a seat with a waterfront view! In short, come on by and we believe there’ll be something for you!

Do you ship?

Yes, always! Specifically, we’ll charge a flat fee of $15 for any purchases from Wed-Mon, Oct 15-20 shipping within the continental US. International shipping will be at cost and we’ll email you an invoice for any difference in shipping cost over the initial $15 that we will charge you at time of purchase. We will begin to ship packages starting Fri Oct 23.

I bought yarn or a kit that comes with a free pattern. Where is it?

Look for it on this page. Not there? Please email us with your pattern request and remind us of what you purchased and we’ll send it right out to you!

Could you wind my skein?

Ordinarily, yes, with pleasure! It’s a complimentary service that we offer our customers. However, the week of S&W we regret that we will not be able to wind skeins. If you’re local, you can (as always) come back any time after the festival weekend with the skeins you’ve bought from us and we’ll wind them for you. If you’re visiting, we’re happy to wind your skein purchases and ship them to you for our flat $15 shipping fee, with no charge for winding.

Do you have an online store?

YES! Check it out here! It launched earlier this year and is a mini-store that does not have our complete inventory. Each week or so we aim to add a few more items for sale. But anything you see in the shop or on our Instagram is fair game to request to purchase by phone or email, or DM on Instagram (less frequently checked). We can process secure sales with a Square invoice by email and send you your goodies for a flat $12 shipping fee.

So you sell fiber equipment now?

Well, we have since day 1, starting with small goods like drop spindles and lap looms. Then in 2025 we became a dealer for Schacht Spindle Co. and then Ashford so we can sell spinning wheels, looms and their accessories, hooray! At any time we have a few models and accessories on hand that you can check out and/or purchase and take home. For items that we don’t have in-stock, we are happy to order these for you at the company’s suggested retail prices for you to pick up at Yarn Farm when they arrive. If you’d like goods shipped to you, that’s an option too! And for purchases shipped out of state, we’re not required to charge sales tax, which can be helpful for fitting fiber equipment into your budget, as we know they are a meaningful investment.
