Visible Mending April Course (TWO 90-min sessions)

  • 21 W. Strand St. Kingston US (map)

Two ninety-minute sessions meeting on Sunday late morning

So many Yarn Farm Friends ask us about visible mending, and for good reason! Use sewing techniques to mend, beautify and sustain your garments and textile treasures. Brilliant!

You will learn these techniques with hands-on practice in class on woven fabric - think cottons, linens, button down shirts and the like:

  • Running stitch (with or without thimble)

  • Patching (raw or with a neat edge)

  • Applique

  • Reverse applique

  • Woven patch (without a loom)

  • Embroidery

You will learn these techniques with hands-on practice in class on knit fabric - think handknits and commercially-made knits, t-shirts, stretch leggings and the like:

  • Darning

  • Patching

  • Woven patch (without a loom)

It’s indeed a lot, and we’ll move steadily through the techniques. You may not try every single one yourself in class but you’ll certainly do 2-3 of them per class, and you’ll have what you need to keep practicing and mending at home, including a materials kit (value approx. $30-40) included in your class fee. In class we’ll also go through the range of tools that can be helpful. But to start you don’t need very much!

Teacher: Jocelyn Songco
Class fee $100 including materials.

Materials provided (illustrative and valued at approx. $30-40): variety of cloth (cotton, linen, wool and stretch jersey), sashiko embroidery floss, DMC embroidery floss, wool/nylon thread, needles, stick and stitch for  embroidery, embroidery hoop and pins.

Not included: thimble or darning egg, but these are available for purchase. During your course, you may shop with a 10% discount on full-price items (some limited items are excluded from this discount) on the dates your class meets.

Minimum 2 people to confirm the class, maximum of 6 students total. If we don’t reach the minimum of two students by 3 days before the date of the first class we’ll refund your purchase in full. Read and understand our Class Policies here.
