Embroidery Newbies April Course (TWO 90-min sessions)

  • 21 W. Strand St. Kingston US (map)

Two ninety-minute sessions meeting on Sunday afternoons

Imagine whiling away your days and nights, hoop in hand, sewing lovely textile embellishments a la Elizabeth Darcy, Daphne Bridgerton or today’s Arounna Khounnoraj!

If you’re like us and you find inspiration in hand sewn decor in designs that range from traditional to modern day, in color palettes of your choosing, this beginner-friendly class is for you!

Start your embroidery journey here. You will learn a variety of embroidery stitches, and be encouraged to try out new stitches outside of class on your own between the two sessions.

Stitches that we will cover include a range of essential stitches that you’ll certainly need in your sewing toolkit, as well as more textured stitches that may or may not be complicated but definitely look it!*

  • Running stitch

  • Back stitch

  • Stem stitch

  • Straight stitch

  • Satin stitch

  • French knots

  • Woven wheel stitch

Teacher: Jocelyn Songco
Class fee $100 including materials.

Materials provided (illustrative and valued at approx. $30-40+): printed cotton/linen embroidery panel (your choice from a set of designs), your choice of DMC embroidery floss (6 skeins) or Trailheads hand-dyed tencel thread (3 bobbins), blank cotton/linen panel, embroidery hoop and needle.

During your course, you may shop with a 10% discount on full-price items (some limited items are excluded from this discount) on the dates your class meets. You’ll probably want to use this as we have many more supplies to fuel your creative spirit!

Minimum 2 people to confirm the class, maximum of 6 students total. If we don’t reach the minimum of two students by 3 days before the date of the first class we’ll refund your purchase in full. Read and understand our Class Policies here.

*This course, versus our Visible Mending course also offered in April, focuses on traditional embroidery stitches you’ll have seen growing up here in the US or in Europe (for example) and not on how these stitches are used to mend and sustain garments and other everyday textiles, or embroidery from other cultures. For the mending and sustaining, consider our Visible Mending course! For more on other cultures, check out our Sashiko Stitching course, or another resource, Tatter!
